The building is a 1921 art deco landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, converted to loft residences with hardwood floors, granite... kitchen counters, and ceilings between ten and fourteen feet. The District stands on Louisiana Street on the east side of downtown Houston, in the Historic District that grew up around Market Square. The building went up for William C. Hogg, who developed River Oaks. The Alley Theatre and the surrounding Theater District venues are a third of a mile west, and the University of Houston-Downtown campus is half a mile northeast. Market Square Park sits at the building's edge, a quarter mile from the door, with walking paths running under mature live oaks, the Lauren's Garden memorial, and a dog run split into separate areas for small and large dogs behind a lit crescent walkway.
